Penguin Ornaments

Pattern (My measurements are a little strange because I cut and then measured. You can adapt this pattern for standard measurements if you want. This gives you a good starting point.)
Cut two of the hat bands-- one in white glass, one in your favorite dichroic. I actually made the dichroic element a little smaller because the white glass is going to shrink up a bit and the dichroic is not going to.
When making the scarves, make them as wide as the base so they'll slump down and look like they're going all the way around the penguin.

Eyes, feet and pompom on the hat: The eyes were made by quick fusing coarse frit. The feet are 1/4 inch squares quick fused to round them out. The pompoms are 1/2 inch squares, again quick fused to round them out.
Quick Fuse:

Beak: cut squares 3/8. Nip them in half. Shape with a grinder.
Instructions:
Cut the parts as shown or adjust your pattern for the size you're looking for.
I used a grinder to round out the bottom part of the tummy (white part).
Glue up the parts. Patience is a virtue when it comes to gluing these up. I do the hat with an ornament hook sandwiched between the hat and base, glue the pompom and leave them to sit for at least an hour. These slide around a lot, even with Glasstac gel.
Important: I forgot to snap a photo of the pompon on the hat.
Then I glue up the remaining parts and transfer to the kiln. I wait at least another hour and make adjustments.

The pom pom goes on when you glue up the red part of the hat and the ornament clip. I forgot to get a photo. It goes on in this step.

Fuse: After lots of trail and error, this is the program I wrote for these. Your kiln will vary. You want a fuse just over a tack but under a contour.
This is a very conservative schedule. I always go low and slow. It never hurts to be a little patient. This is between a tack fuse and a contour fuse.
